Dear Being Alive Family and Friends,
Being Alive is 35!
Being Alive has provided services to those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS since 1986. Established by three friends, John Mohr, Ron Rose, and Rick Ewing, Being Alive has responded to the needs of those with HIV by advocating for clients, working through bureaucratic barriers, and creating a community of respect and dignity.
Today, Being Alive serves as a beacon of emotional support, treatment education, and empowerment to thousands of people living with HIV/AIDS. By working together with clients and providers, service organizations and support groups, Being Alive clients are thriving. Our clients have a viral suppression rate of 96.5%.
Being Alive has changed with the times. In the early days, peer volunteers provided hospital visits, helped those dying prepare their estates, cleaned apartments of those who passed, offered hope and support to those diagnosed with HIV or AIDS, and became family for so many whose families had abandoned them. Today, we offer a full range of services from mental health to medical updates, acupuncture, chiropractic, and support groups, to our newest program of harm reduction, a syringe service program, to keep those most vulnerable from contracting HIV. We are doing our part to end HIV.
Being Alive has been through it all – and we plan to see this to the end: a cure.
This is why we are celebrating! We celebrate the amazing work of all of those who came before us. We celebrate those who fought hard for rights and access who aren’t here to see the fruits of their labor. We celebrate our clients who are living long, healthy lives managing their HIV. We celebrate our resilience and passion. We celebrate the unique spirit and passion of the community that is BEING ALIVE!
